Summer construction season is in full swing. It's time to plan ahead for delays and to make sure that you leave plenty of time to travel to and from your destinations. With construction on the Ligonier Diamond and the replacement of the bridges at Peoples and Clifford Woods roads, we are well aware that traffic can get very busy at times. Our Public Works Director has multiple road projects for his crew as well and we want to ask that motorists be sure to slow down and watch for work crews and first responders.
Another concern is that summer is a time to enjoy fireworks. Please be advised that all fireworks displays throughout the year must have a permit from the township. You can obtain one in the Zoning Office.
Please remember that fireworks safety is important:
Fireworks cannot be ignited or discharged on a public or private property without express permission of the owner.
They cannot be discharged from or within a motor vehicle or building.
They cannot be discharged toward a motor vehicle or building.
They cannot be discharged within 150 feet of an occupied structure.
They cannot be discharged while the person is under the influence of alcohol, a controlled substance, or another drug.
In conclusion, we are working hard to coordinate efforts with Ligonier Borough and Ligonier Township Police Departments to combine both forces and their equipment to be a regionalized police depa1iment. Please watch the newspaper and the township website for a date to join us at a community meeting this summer where a plan will be unveiled for how this partnership will work. We value your opinion and we want your input on how you think the force can work best for you and our community.
